Business Development Lead - Full time
About Cella:
Cella is a venture-backed climate tech company developing in-situ CO₂ mineralization projects to deliver safe, permanent carbon removal at gigaton scale. We are currently executing our first field pilot and are in the early stages of developing a large-scale demonstration project to validate our technology for commercial deployment.
Our mission is to unlock the full potential of geologic carbon storage by creating a technology that leverages proven solutions for unconventional rock types. We’re a small, fast-moving team with deep technical expertise, now building out our commercial capabilities to scale up deployments across key geographies and industries.
About the role:
Cella is seeking a Business Development Lead to drive our commercial strategy and partner development efforts as we scale from pilot to demonstration to revenue-generating projects. This is a critical leadership role that blends strategic thinking, deal execution, and partner engagement—with the goal of positioning Cella as the preferred CO₂ mineral storage partner across multiple industries. The primary focus of this role is to originate and structure commercial relationships that will accelerate the deployment of our technology. Near term, this includes securing industrial and corporate partners and co-development opportunities to support our large-scale demonstration project. Long term, it’s about laying the foundation for multi-project pipelines, revenue partnerships, and commercial-scale customer agreements.
This role reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the CTO, engineering and operations managers, as well as external legal and financial advisors.
Key Responsibilities:
● Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to refine and execute Cella’s go-to-market and partnership roadmap, ensuring alignment with technology milestones and funding strategy.
● Identify and evaluate new business opportunities and potential partnerships through leading exploratory discussions with existing or prospective partners and cultivating senior-level executive relationships with potential partners.
● Build and manage a pipeline of potential partners and projects, from exploratory conversations through to signed agreements. Serve as the main commercial point of contact and strategic advisor in partner engagements.
● Develop template agreements and negotiate first-of-a-kind partnerships, including deal economic; create internal frameworks, term sheet templates, and decision-making tools to accelerate and standardize the evaluation of new business opportunities and partnerships.
● Contribute to the definition of commercial success metrics (e.g., revenue, contracted volume, project value), and advise on the team and resources needed to deliver on them.
Ideal Background & Skills:
● 6–15 years of experience in business development, commercial partnerships, or project origination in climate tech, energy, industrial decarbonization, or infrastructure.
● Proven ability to take partnerships from early-stage interest to structured, signed agreements.
● Familiarity with project finance, joint development structures, MOUs, offtake agreements, and risk allocation.
● Strong communicator with executive presence and credibility in front of partners and investors.
● Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, legal, and finance teams to bridge technical and commercial goals.
● Strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity and can operate with a high degree of ownership in a fast-moving, early-stage company.
This is a full-time role based in New York or Houston with competitive compensation and full benefits, including health, dental, vision, paid time off, and the opportunity to grow with a mission-driven team at the frontier of climate innovation.
