About Us

Our goal at Cella is to provide a safe and permanent way to store CO2 at the scale needed to make a positive impact on the earth’s climate. We do this by accelerating a natural process that transforms carbon dioxide into rock, harnessing the planet’s own powers to combat climate change. Based in New York, we’re bringing together the world’s leading experts in carbon mineral storage to develop innovative mineralization technologies, with lower costs and environmental impacts, that will enable us to scale carbon mineralization to climate-relevant impacts. Our technology opens up possibilities for carbon management in geological contexts without conventional storage resources, creating opportunities to grow carbon removal around the world.

About the Role

As Lead Engineer at Cella, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our carbon storage technology and driving the company's mission to eliminate CO2. You will develop and lead a team of engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement cutting-edge carbon storage solutions. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and innovative thinking will be critical in achieving our ambitious goals. We are looking for an experienced industry expert with a technical background in petroleum engineering and experience in project management. The preferred candidate will have a demonstrated track record of managing engineering works from conception to completion, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

What you will do

  • Technical Leadership: Generate and implement the project engineering scope of work and execution plan and oversee the entire engineering process from concept to implementation.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring that engineering projects are executed efficiently and meet key milestones. Subcontract specialist engineering activities to outsourced companies and monitor/control their activities.
  • Team Management: Build and lead a team of talented engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to drive innovation and excellence in engineering projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including scientists, researchers, and business development teams to align engineering efforts with company goals; participate in client meetings as required to provide technical input and execution guidance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and optimization in engineering workflows, methodologies, and technologies, and drive research initiatives to enhance our solutions.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

What you will bring

  • 5-8 years previous experience in petroleum engineering, with a minimum of 2 years in a project management role and exposure to reservoir and drilling engineering responsibilities.
  • Prior exposure to geologic carbon storage or secondary oil recovery technologies preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • High financial acumen and experience with project costing and managing operational budgets.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for sustainability and carbon reduction.
  • Comfortable working in fluid, high-growth environments.

Why you should join Cella

  • Ability to make an impact: There is no greater challenge or opportunity than fighting climate change and this job gives you the opportunity to make a difference in this fight. As a venture-backed company in an exciting field, we’re charting a course to store over a billion tons of carbon by mid-century. With this first-of-its-kind role you can make a large impact on shaping the direction of this journey.
  • Work with a world-class team and partners: we are some of the top experts in carbon mineralization in the world, combined with a track record of delivering impact at scale. We’re working with some of the world’s pioneering companies in the climate tech space, and our early customers include Stripe and Shopify.
  • A competitive salary and generous benefits, including meaningful equity compensation, comprehensive health coverages, access to our 401k plan, and unlimited PTO and sick days.
